Coronavirus Chronicles Day #28
Pretty simple Good Friday here at the Smith’s. When Noah was little and I was still working Saturday, Sunday and the Holidays were known to him as Mommy and Daddy days. He would wake up on the weekend and climb into our bed asking is today a Mommy Daddy Day?!?! It used to make my heart both happy and sad. Well flash forward 8 plus years and today I woke-up to Owen climbing into bed with me with icicles for feet. He then proceeded to wedge his feet in-between my legs for warmth. This followed closely by both Corbin and then Dawson climbing into my bed and placing cold legs, arms, whatever on me because let’s face it I’m just an over glorified heated blanket….Noah came downstairs but he doesn’t climb into my bed anymore…I think I’m okay with being an over glorified blanket if it means they still snuggle.
So during the storm our satellite dish shifted ever so slightly that we could only get 2 channels. The last 24+ hours was like living in 1985. We don’t have anyplace to go and we only have 2 channels. Plus one of them only plays Tom and Jerry…
Kids headed outside for awhile and I then called them inside to make cucumber salsa. After my knuckle wounding by the hand grater Adam was nice enough to grab me a new chopper on one of his Walmart runs. I’ve made salsa with my mom a bunch when I was younger but it was the first time with my kids. Who would have thought pressing the on button and feeding vegetables into a processor would be so much fun for them but it was.

Dawson locked Noah out, Noah jokingly asked if he could come into the in now…

So I’m going to confess here so please don’t judge but it’s been a really weird lent. There have been Lenten promises made and broken. Some of the kids gave up kindles for Lent and a week later we needed them for e-learning. You get the picture. We are doing our best but some Catholic rules like no meat on Fridays have been tossed out the window. I kept telling the kids God understands it’s okay. But even with all this craziness I have never felt closer to my faith. This could be because I’m teaching religion to the kids and we have talked about the Holy Week so much more than we would have in the past. Or it could be the global pandemic, whatever the reason for all of it, I feel at peace.

Adam made dinner for tonight and he smoked meatloaf. We spent the afternoon sitting outside and at one point all 6 of us were there just talking. Not an earth moving conversation but a discussion and it was the first time that I could see what might be in our future with the boys.
Dinner was delicious and once again we found ourselves discussing the Holy Week. We were discussing the stations of the cross and Adam finally looked at the boys and said you know Jesus had a brother right? He’s brothers name was Craig…Craig Christ. Now at our house you have to understand that Adam teases the kids non-stop about everything. In the beginning they were oh so gullible!! I would finally have to tell the truth for fear they would go out into the real world and spread whatever Adam had made up!! At least now they have finally hit the point that they know he might be pulling a fast one one them. So back to Craig Christ…Noah right away realizes he’s joking and laughs but the other 3 turn to me asking really?!? We never knew…Adam can’t keep a straight face.
Corbin asks “Mom, did Jesus really have a brother named Craig?”….”Um, no…” me shooting daggers at Adam with my eyes (I mean it’s Good Friday for crying out loud!! ) “No, as far as I know and most biblical scholars would agree there is no Craig Christ”…I hate you Adam….(You can see the skepticism on Dawson’s face.)

Finished dinner and kids showered. Corbin came downstairs 2 minutes after going upstairs and Adam asked him if he actually used soap. Corbin said no…we sent him back upstairs…I mean showering without soap is just getting wet…
We watched The Rise of Skywalker as a family. Kids went to bed as Adam and I selected a movie that seemed perfect for the times…Zombieland Doubletap…
So anyway, the kids are alright, Adam and I are alright and the dog is living his best life!
